November 9: A Different Kind of Peace

Scripture
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
—John 14:27 (NIV)

Before going to the cross, Jesus promised His followers a peace unlike anything the world could offer. The world’s version of peace depends on circumstances, on everything going the way we want. But the peace Jesus gives goes much deeper. It is a peace that touches the core of who we are, a peace that makes things right between us and God. This is true shalom, complete wholeness and rest for the soul.

When you live in that peace, fear begins to lose its power. You start to see that no matter what happens, you are held securely in the love of Christ. But we can easily allow things to rob us of that peace. It happens when we fall back into worldly thinking, when we chase control, comfort, or recognition, forgetting that our peace was never meant to come from those things.

Peace is not found in getting everything you want; it is found in learning to want and appreciate what you already have. Gratitude anchors us in God’s goodness and brings our hearts back to rest. When we choose thankfulness, we begin to notice that the peace Jesus promised has been with us all along.

So take a moment today to slow down, breathe, and remember His words: “My peace I give you.” Let His presence quiet your mind and steady your heart. Whatever you are facing, you are not alone. He is with you, and His peace is enough.

Reflection
1. What kinds of things tend to steal your peace?

2. How is the peace Jesus offers different from what the world promises?

3. What can you thank God for right now that helps you rest in His peace?

Prayer
Thank Jesus for the gift of His peace. Ask Him to guard your heart from worry and fear and to help you live with gratitude for what you already have. Pray that His peace would fill you today and overflow into the lives of those around you.
