Channels of His Grace

Scripture
“Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD his God,
the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them,
the LORD, who remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets prisoners free,
the LORD gives sight to the blind,
the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,
the LORD loves the righteous.”
—Psalm 146:5–9 (NIV)

This psalm is a powerful reminder that those whose hope is in the Lord are truly blessed. God isn’t just a distant ruler, He is personal and deeply involved in our lives. At the same time, He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. He made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them. And He remains faithful forever.

That word “faithful” is key. His faithfulness is not temporary or dependent on our performance. It is constant. It’s something we can count on, something we can rest in. He sees us, He hears us, and He cares. But He doesn’t just care about our needs. This passage shows us that God also cares deeply for the oppressed, the hungry, the imprisoned, the blind, and the brokenhearted.

The question is, how does He meet those needs? Most often, He chooses to work through His people. If our hope is in the Lord, then we are the ones through whom He wants to bring justice, relief, compassion, and healing. This isn’t just a call to observe what God does, it’s a call to participate in it.

“I am like a little pencil in His hand. That is all. He does the thinking. He does the writing. The pencil has nothing to do with it.”¹
—Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa understood this better than most. Even the smallest acts of faithfulness become channels of God’s grace when we let ourselves be held and used by Him, rather than trying to be the source of the good ourselves. And yes, the Lord still works in miraculous ways. He gives sight to the blind. He lifts up those who are bowed down. He frees those who are in bondage. And often, He does those things through the lives of His people, the righteous, those who live in step with His Spirit. God not only uses us to meet practical needs but also to be vessels of supernatural power and healing. As we pray in faith, He moves. As we seek Him, He responds. May our presence in the world bring hope, healing, and help to those in need.

As those who trust in the Lord, let’s be channels of His grace, His power, and His love.

Reflection

  1. What does it mean to you personally that God is both the Creator and the One who remains faithful forever?
  2. How can you be a channel of God’s justice, compassion, or provision to someone in need?
  3. Are there ways you’ve been overlooking the opportunity to partner with God in lifting others up?

Prayer

Thank God for His unfailing faithfulness to you and His deep concern for the vulnerable. Ask Him to help you reflect His heart in practical ways today. Pray for eyes to see needs around you and a willingness to be His hands and feet to a hurting world.
