February 26: Demolishing Strongholds

Scripture
“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds… we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:3–5 (NIV)

We live in the world, but we do not fight the way the world fights.

The world battles with outrage, intimidation, and often violence. The Kingdom advances differently. Paul reminds us that our weapons are not worldly. They carry divine power. That means the real battlefield is not first political, cultural, or relational. It is spiritual. And often, it is deeply personal.

The enemy’s most consistent strategy is not open attack but subtle deception. From the garden to the wilderness, the tactic has remained the same: question God’s Word, distort His character, plant doubt. If a lie is believed long enough, it becomes a stronghold, a pattern of thinking that shapes our identity and choices. That is why Paul tells us to take every thought captive before it takes us captive.

As A. W. Tozer wrote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”¹ If our thoughts about God are distorted, everything else will eventually drift. But when we allow Scripture to define reality, when we measure our thoughts against truth, strongholds begin to crumble. The battle for obedience begins in the mind.

So today, be watchful. Pay attention to what you are rehearsing in your mind. When a thought does not align with who God is or who He says you are, do not entertain it. Bring it to Christ. Lay it before Him. Let His Word speak louder than your fears, your past, or the enemy’s whispers. You are not fighting alone, and you are not fighting powerless. The weapons you carry have divine power.

Reflection
1. What recurring thought has been shaping your perspective recently?

2. Is there a lie about God or about yourself that needs to be replaced with truth?

3. What practical step can you take today to guard your mind with Scripture?

Prayer
Ask the Lord to search your thoughts and reveal any strongholds that have taken root. Invite the Holy Spirit to renew your mind and anchor you in truth. Pray for strength to walk in obedience, one thought at a time.
