November 22 – He Is Better Than We Imagine

Scripture
“The Lord is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation. All of your works will thank you, Lord, and your faithful followers will praise you. They will speak of the glory of your kingdom; they will give examples of your power. They will tell about your mighty deeds and about the majesty and glory of your reign. For your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom. You rule throughout all generations. The Lord always keeps his promises; he is gracious in all he does.”
Psalm 145:8–13 (NLT)

So many people carry an image of God that does not reflect what Scripture actually reveals. Some imagine Him harsh, distant, or easily angered. But David invites us to see the truth. God is merciful. He is compassionate. He is slow to get angry and overflowing with unfailing love. He is good to everyone and showers compassion on all creation. This is who He has always been, and this is who He is for you today. The question is not whether God is loving, but whether we truly believe He is.

When we remember who God really is, gratitude rises naturally. David says all God’s works thank Him, and His faithful followers praise Him. How could we not? We have a God who sees us, forgives us, strengthens us, and surrounds us with compassion. When your view of God aligns with Scripture, praise becomes more than a Sunday activity. It becomes the response of a heart that knows it is loved beyond measure.

David then gives us a challenge. He says that God’s people “will speak of the glory of His kingdom” and “tell of His mighty deeds.” Take a moment to reread verses 11 and 12. This is the calling of every believer. We are meant to talk about His goodness, to share stories of His power, to tell others how He has shown up in our lives. We all have testimonies of mercy, compassion, provision, and answered prayer. These stories are meant to be told.

This is why we are alive: to know this great God of ours and to introduce others to Him. His kingdom is everlasting. His promises never fail. His compassion never runs dry. And in a world filled with distorted pictures of God, our lives and our words help people see Him as He truly is—faithful, powerful, gracious, and full of unfailing love. May you know His love deeply and share it with others passionately!

Reflection
1. What part of God’s character in this passage do you need to let sink deeper into your heart today?

2. When has God shown you His compassion or unfailing love in a way you could share with someone else?

3. Who around you needs to hear about the goodness and power of God, and how might you speak of His Kingdom this week?

Prayer
Thank God for His compassion, mercy, and unfailing love. Ask Him to correct any false views you may hold about Him and to help you see Him as He truly is. Pray for the courage to speak of His goodness and to share His mighty deeds with those around you.
