December 2 – He Will Fight For You
Scripture
“As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, and they said to Moses, ‘Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness?…’
But Moses told the people, ‘Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today… The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.’”
Exodus 14:10–14 (NLT)
The story of Israel at the Red Sea is a vivid picture of how easily fear can drown out faith. God had just delivered His people with signs and wonders, yet the moment they saw Pharaoh’s army, panic rose up and pushed trust aside. We’ve all been there. Trouble appears on the horizon, and suddenly we assume the worst. But fear never tells the truth about God. As A. W. Tozer once wrote, “While it looks like things are out of control, behind the scenes there is a God who hasn’t surrendered His authority.”¹ Israel forgot this. Moses didn’t.
Moses looked at the same army, stood on the same shore, felt the same pressure — but responded with calm confidence. Why? Because Moses remembered what God had said and done. He trusted the One who had called him and believed the Lord would finish what He started. Moses knew this battle wasn’t his to fight. “Just stand still,” he told the people. “Watch the Lord rescue you.” His peace didn’t come from his own strength, but from confidence in the God who was with him.
We all face our own Red Sea moments, those seasons when life closes in and fear whispers that there is no way out. Yet the same God who fought for Israel still fights for His people today. He hasn’t surrendered His authority. His promises remain steady even when everything around us shakes. Trusting Him doesn’t mean we never feel afraid — it means we choose to lean on His strength instead of our own.
Where might God be inviting you to stand still and trust Him today? You may feel surrounded, but you are not alone. The Lord Himself is with you, and He will fight for you. Will you trust Him with whatever you are facing today?
Reflection
1. Where do you feel most tempted to panic instead of trust?
2. What promise of God do you need to hold onto today?
3. What would it look like for you to “stand still” and rely on His strength rather than your own?
Prayer
Ask God to calm your heart and strengthen your trust in Him. Pray for the courage to stand still when fear rises and to believe that He is fighting for you. Ask Him to help you rest in His promises and follow Him with confidence today.
