October 30: Made New

Scripture
“Since we believe that Christ died for all, we also believe that we have all died to our old life. He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.
So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now! This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
2 Corinthians 5:14–17 (NLT)

Jesus died for the sin of all humanity, which means He died for yours and mine. But His death was never meant to leave us unchanged. He gave His life not only to forgive us but to make us new. The cross was not the end, it was the beginning of a whole new kind of life.

Paul reminds us that those who receive this new life are no longer to live for themselves. The old self that chased comfort, recognition, and self-interest has died. Now we live for Christ, who died and was raised for us. His resurrection life reshapes our values, our motives, and the way we see others.

Because of Jesus, we no longer view people from an earthly perspective. We stop judging by appearances and start seeing through the eyes of grace. Every person you meet bears the image of God and carries eternal worth. Christ’s love compels us to see them not as they are, but as they could be through Him.

You are a new creation in Christ. The old life is gone and a new life has begun. John Calvin once wrote, “The regeneration of the children of God is not a mere changing of habits, but the creation of a new nature.”¹ This new nature is the work of God’s grace in us, and it calls us to live differently. May we represent Him well, and invite others to experience the same beautiful transformation that only Jesus can bring.

Reflection
1. What parts of your “old life” still try to pull you back into old patterns or attitudes?

2. How can you begin to see others through Christ’s eyes rather than through human judgment?

3. In what ways can your daily life reflect the reality that you are a new creation in Christ?

Prayer
Thank God for making you a new creation in Christ. Ask Him to help you live from your new nature, to see others through His eyes, and to reflect His grace in every part of your life.
