Peace with God

Scripture
Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us. Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory. We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.
Romans 5:1–5 (NLT)

Are you at peace in your soul today? Have you put your faith in Jesus? Paul tells us that when we place our trust in Him, we are made right with God. That means the barrier of sin and guilt is gone. Because of what Jesus has done, you are forgiven, loved, and cleansed.

But Paul goes even further. He says that through Christ, you have been brought into a place of undeserved privilege. You now stand in grace, not guilt. And you can look ahead with confidence and joy, knowing that one day you will share in the glory of God.

“‘Peace with God’ speaks of the immediate effect of our justification. We were ‘enemies’ of God, but now the old enmity has been put away by God’s forgiveness and we are at peace with Him.”
— John Stott¹

That’s the peace Paul is describing here, not a feeling you have to manufacture, but a settled fact about your relationship with God. If you find yourself walking through hardship or uncertainty, remember that even trials are not wasted in God’s hands. He uses them to develop endurance, build character, and strengthen hope. Every challenge becomes an opportunity for Him to shape you more into the likeness of Christ.

A day is coming when you will be with the God who loves you more than you can imagine. But even now, His Spirit is with you, filling you with peace and strength for whatever you face. You don’t have to hold it all together or figure everything out. Just rest in His love today.

Reflection

  1. How does knowing you’ve been made right with God through faith bring peace to your heart today?
  2. How might viewing your trials as opportunities for growth change the way you approach them?
  3. What would it look like for you to rely more fully on the Holy Spirit when life feels uncertain or overwhelming?

Prayer
Thank God for the peace you have through faith in Jesus. Ask Him to remind you daily of the undeserved privilege of standing in His grace. Pray for endurance, character, and hope to grow in your life, and for the Spirit to fill your heart with a deep awareness of His love.
