September 28: Rescued

Scripture
But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.
—Galatians 3:13–14 (NLT)

Paul has just finished explaining that anyone who relies on keeping the law is under a curse, because no one can obey it perfectly. Into that hopeless reality comes the good news: Christ has rescued us from the curse.Jesus alone kept the law flawlessly, and then He took the full weight of our sin on Himself when He was hung on the cross. The curse that should have been ours fell on Him.

And what do we receive in exchange? Forgiveness, freedom, and life. Paul reminds us that this promise is not reserved for a select group. It is for Jew and Gentile alike. Everyone is included in Christ’s work on the cross, and everyone is invited to receive new life through faith in Him.

That new life isn’t only about eternity; it begins now. Jesus said He came so that we might have life, and have it abundantly. Through the Spirit, that abundance looks like love, joy, peace, and all the fruit of a life rooted in Him. The curse once weighed us down like a heavy chain, but Christ broke it at the cross. The Spirit now gives us a new way to live—lighter, freer, shaped not by striving but by grace.

So why live as though the chains are still on? Christ has already set us free. Our call is to step into that freedom daily—to trust His grace when we fail, lean on His Spirit when we are weak, and live as Kingdom people who reflect His love. You are no longer cursed. You are blessed, empowered, and sent. Walk in that reality today.

Reflection
1. In what ways do you still find yourself living as though you’re under the curse of trying to earn God’s favor?

2. How does it encourage you to know that the blessings of Abraham are offered to all people through Christ?

3.What is one way you can lean into the abundant life Jesus promised you today?

Prayer
Thank God for rescuing you from the curse of the law through Christ’s sacrifice. Ask Him to fill you afresh with His Spirit so you can live in the freedom and abundance of His Kingdom today.
