November 15: Safely Home
Scripture
“Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but he died for sinners to bring you safely home to God. He suffered physical death, but he was raised to life in the Spirit.”
—1 Peter 3:18 (NLT)
Christ suffered for our sins. May we never grow numb to this humbling truth. It was for our sin, yours and mine, that Jesus willingly suffered. We may not have stood in the crowd shouting “Crucify Him,” but our sin cried out just as loudly. The innocent Son of God took upon Himself the punishment we deserved. Yet Peter reminds us that He did this to bring us safely home to God.
He was perfect and sinless, yet He chose the cross. Scripture tells us that “for the joy set before Him, He endured the cross.” What was that joy? It was us. It was our redemption, our rescue, our restoration to the Father. Jesus looked beyond the suffering to see the joy of His children coming home. The cross was not the enemy’s victory, but the greatest act of love ever displayed.
And the story did not end there. “He was raised to life in the Spirit.” Death could not hold Him, and it cannot hold those who belong to Him. Because He lives, there is always hope. The cross reminds us of God’s love, and the resurrection reminds us of His power. Together they assure us that nothing is too far gone for Him to redeem.
So if you find yourself in a place that feels lifeless or broken, whether in a strained relationship, a struggling marriage, a wayward child, or even a weary heart, remember this: God is still in the business of raising what seems dead. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave is still breathing life into weary souls today. The One who suffered to bring you home will never stop working to make all things new.
Reflection
1. How often do you pause to reflect on the personal nature of Jesus’ sacrifice for your sin?
2. What areas of your life need the reminder that God still brings resurrection and renewal?
3. How can you express gratitude today for the hope and life Christ’s suffering has secured for you?
Prayer
Praise God for the joy Jesus found in bringing you safely home. Ask Him to breathe life into the places that feel weary or broken. Pray for renewed gratitude for His sacrifice and deeper confidence in the power of His resurrection.
