Strength for the Powerless

Scripture

“Have you never heard? Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.”
Isaiah 40:28–29 (NLT)

These verses lift our eyes from our frailty to the God who has no limits. He is the everlasting God, without beginning or end. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the great “I AM,” the One who spoke creation into existence. He rules over time, space, and history, and yet He never grows tired or weary. While our strength runs out, His strength remains infinite. This is our hope, that the God of eternity is the same God who is near to us today.

Isaiah reminds us that no one can measure the depths of His understanding. His wisdom goes beyond anything we could grasp. His ways are higher than our ways and His perspective is eternal. Often we are left wondering why certain things happen, but He sees the full story. What may feel confusing or painful to us is always under His sovereign care. We may not understand, but we can trust the One whose wisdom has no limits.

What makes this truth even more incredible is that this almighty, everlasting God loves us so deeply that He gave His only Son for us. Who else would sacrifice their child for someone who wronged them? Nobody would, but God in His unfathomable love did exactly that. This is why Isaiah says no one can measure His understanding. His love defies human logic. His grace is not what we would expect, but it is the very hope we cling to.

And so, Isaiah declares that He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. That means when you reach the end of yourself, He meets you with more than enough. In your weakness, He is strong, and in your brokenness, He is your healer. When you are weary, He renews you. So bring Him your exhaustion today, and let Him hold what you cannot.

Reflection

  1. Where in your life right now do you feel weak or powerless, and how can you invite God’s strength into that place?
  2. How does remembering God’s eternal nature (the Alpha and Omega) change the way you view your present struggles?
  3. What does His willingness to give His Son teach you about the depth of His love for you?

Prayer
Thank God that He is the everlasting One who never grows weary. Ask Him for strength in your weakness and wisdom when you cannot understand, and for a deeper trust in His love as He holds every detail of your life.
