August 28: The Eternal Rock
Scripture
You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
Trust in the Lord always,
for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.
He humbles the proud
and brings down the arrogant city.
He brings it down to the dust.
The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot,
and the needy walk all over it.
But for those who are righteous,
the way is not steep and rough.
You are a God who does what is right,
and you smooth out the path ahead of them.
Isaiah 26:3–7 (NLT)
Isaiah reminds us that peace is not found in circumstances, but in trusting the Lord. Perfect peace comes to those who fix their thoughts on God, not on the rise and fall of nations or the chaos of the world. The Lord is the eternal Rock, steady and unshakable. While kingdoms crumble and rulers fall, He alone remains forever.
The prophet points forward to a day when the Lord will make all things right. Our return to ‘Eden’ is certain. Revelation speaks of a new heaven and a new earth, where Jesus, the true King, will reign. Until that day, we live in a world still marked by prideful rulers and broken systems. But their reign is only temporary. And history shows that God still humbles the proud and brings down cities built on oppression.
This is why our trust cannot rest in governments, leaders, or the fleeting promises of this world. Our confidence belongs to God alone. His Kingdom is not like the kingdoms of this world. It is an upside-down Kingdom where the poor and oppressed are lifted up and those who seemed untouchable are brought low. The Lord is a God who always does what is right, and He calls His people to do the same.
Micah 6:8 gives us the clear charge: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” This is our calling. May we live it out with courage today—seeking justice, showing mercy, and walking humbly with our God as a citizens of His Kingdom.
Reflection
1. What earthly sources of security do you tend to rely on instead of anchoring your trust in God, the eternal Rock?
2. How does the promise of a new heaven and new earth encourage you in seasons when the world feels unjust or chaotic?
3. In what ways can you live out Micah 6:8 today by acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with God?
Prayer
Thank the Lord that He is the eternal Rock, steady when everything else feels unstable. Pray for your heart and mind to be fixed on Him so that His perfect peace will guard you. Ask Him to help you live out His justice, mercy, and humility as you put your trust in Him today.
