February 8: The Realities Of Heaven

Scripture
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. 2 Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. 3 For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory.”
– Colossians 3:1-4 NLT

In Colossians 3, Paul reminds us of what has already happened to us in Christ. When we were baptized, it wasn’t just a religious moment or public statement. It was a picture of a deeper spiritual reality. Our old life, marked by sin and separation, was buried with Christ, and we were raised to new life with Him. That past is no longer our defining story. Something new has begun.

Because of that, Paul urges us to “set our sights on the realities of heaven.” He’s not telling us to try to escape the world or ignore real life here and now. He’s reminding us where our true citizenship lies. We belong to a greater Kingdom where Christ is reigning, seated at the right hand of the Father, and our lives are now anchored in that reality. When the world feels heavy or confusing, this lifts our eyes and reorients our hearts.

Paul says something deeply comforting here. “Your real life is hidden with Christ in God.” That means your identity is secure and your future is held. Your worth is not up for debate. No matter what you face today, there is a place already prepared for you in Christ. You don’t have to scramble to earn it or just hope it works out in the end. It is already yours because of Jesus.

Then Paul points us forward with hope. “When Christ, who is your life, is revealed…” That phrase says everything. Jesus is not simply part of our lives; He is our life. The day is coming when He will return and set all things right. Until then, we live with our eyes lifted and our hearts anchored. We walk this world as citizens of another Kingdom, carrying a quiet confidence and a settled hope. So let heaven shape your perspective today, and allow the life you have in Christ to guide how you walk, love, and live right where you are.

Reflection
1. What does it look like in your daily life to “set your sights on the realities of heaven” rather than being consumed by earthly concerns?

2. Where do you tend to look for security or identity apart from Christ, and how does Paul’s reminder that your life is “hidden with Christ” invite you to rest differently?

3. How would your choices, priorities, or reactions change if you truly lived as a citizen of another Kingdom this week?

Prayer Focus
Thank God that your life is secure and hidden with Christ. Ask Him to lift your eyes when you are tempted to live only for what is temporary. Pray for a steady heart that reflects the hope, peace, and perspective of heaven in the way you live today.
