February 6: Trustworthy
Scripture
“For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does. He loves whatever is just and good; the unfailing love of the Lord fills the earth. The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. For when he spoke, the world began! It appeared at his command. Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of him.”
– Psalm 33:4–9 (NLT)
When we read Psalm 33, we’re reminded of something we all need to hear from time to time: God is trustworthy. Not mostly trustworthy. Not trustworthy when things are going well. Fully and completely trustworthy. The psalmist starts by saying, “The word of the Lord holds true,” and that sets the tone for everything that follows. What God says can be trusted, and what God does can be relied on.
But what makes this psalm so comforting is not just God’s power, it’s His heart. This all-powerful Creator is also just and good, and His unfailing love fills the earth. He didn’t create out of indifference, and He doesn’t rule from a distance. He lovingly created each one of us, and nothing we face today has slipped past His attention or control. As Charles Spurgeon once said, “God is too good to be unkind, and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.”¹
That truth changes how we live. It means that even when life feels uncertain or confusing, we can rest in the goodness of God. We may not always understand what He is doing, but we can trust who He is. The psalm invites us to stand in awe of Him, not with fear that drives us away, but with reverence that draws us closer.
So maybe we do well to pause for just a moment today and remember who holds it all together. The same God who spoke the world into existence is at work in your life right now. Stand in awe of Him. Rest in His goodness. And trust that the One who created all things is faithfully carrying you as well.
Reflection
1. Where are you currently being asked to trust God, even if the outcome is unclear or not what you would have chosen?
2. How does remembering God as both all-powerful and deeply good change the way you view your current circumstances?
3. What is one area of your life where you sense the Lord inviting you to stop striving and rest more fully in His goodness and care?
Prayer
Thank the Lord for being faithful, trustworthy, and good in all that He does.
Ask Him to help you trust His care and sovereignty in the areas of your life that feel uncertain or heavy right now.
