Wonderfully Made
Scripture
“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!”
—Psalm 139:13–17 (NLT)
Take a second and really sit with this: you are known. You are loved. You were fearfully and wonderfully made, on purpose, by Almighty God. Not overlooked. Not an afterthought. Not a happy accident. David isn’t writing poetry here for effect, he’s telling you the truth about your own life.
“You weren’t an accident. You weren’t mass produced. You aren’t an assembly-line product. You were deliberately planned, specifically gifted, and lovingly positioned on the earth by the Master Craftsman.”¹
—Max Lucado, The Christmas Candle
Before you took your first breath, before anyone knew your name, God was already knitting you together in the dark, paying attention to every detail. Paul says the same thing a different way in Ephesians, calling you God’s “masterpiece,” made for good things He already had planned for you. You’re not here by chance. You’re here on purpose.
The same God who formed you is still holding you now. He’s not surprised by your struggles, your questions, or the mess of your everyday life. Every day of your life, past, present, and still to come, was already known and recorded by Him before it happened. That means the hard seasons aren’t slipping past Him unnoticed, and neither are you.
So today, when you catch yourself believing the lie that you’re too much, not enough, or somehow missed by God, stop and remember whose hands shaped you. Let that truth settle your anxious thoughts, and let it change how you see the next person you meet, someone else God formed with just as much care and intention as He formed you.
Reflection
- What does it mean to you personally that God knit you together and formed you with intention?
- In what areas of your life do you struggle to believe that God’s thoughts toward you are precious and countless?
- How might remembering God’s sovereignty over your days free you from fear or anxiety?
Prayer
Thank God that He made you intentionally and with purpose. Ask Him to help you see yourself through His eyes as His masterpiece. Pray for deeper trust in His care and sovereignty over every day of your life.
